Where the Hell are they? One comment of many? "She[Michelle Obama] is a victim of sexism and racial stereotypes."
C'mon women - get your f$%king act together. If we don't want GW the second, we've got to be supportive - not just of the male, black, candidate [finally!, deal with it y'all], but of his wife "An educated, successful lawyer, devoted wife and caring mother has been labeled "angry" and unpatriotic and snidely referred to as Barack Obama's "baby mama." " And again: "Okay, I get it: Your candidate lost. You're angry. But frankly, I'm getting a little peeved myself. "
And, sadly, RIP George Carlin - we loved ya.
For some reason this song has come into my head unasked lately - I grew up with this idea and hope it's not current.
First, I've been wrestling since yesterday afternoon with what to say about Tim Russert. No one could say it better than Tom Brokaw, when he announced that Russert had died - that Russert was "one of the premier analysts and journalists of his time." He had a wonderful relationship with his father and son, as well as the rest of his family and was one of the brightest lights on TV. He will be sorely missed. So, if you have had your head buried in the sand and didn't see this: And again:
Another of our boy Jeff Darcy's contributions to the Plain Dealer:
OK so my French is somewhat lacking, but you get my meaning, right?
It isn't bad enuf that the economy is tanking, in the basement, etc, including gas prices skyrocketing, but now, now mind you, the f&%king RTA [for you non-Clevelanders this is the Rapid Transit Authority - which manages all public transportation here in Cleve Land] has had to cut back on routes and number of buses. EEEEKKKKK!!! What the Hell? What can RTA do? Probably raise the fares so they can add more buses - but that will still be cheaper than $4+ for gas.
Also, after the great session in the US Senate yesterday, here's our boy, Jeff Darcy's take on it:
From the Washington Post today: "McCain's Tax Plan Aids Wealthy, Says Group". "A detailed analysis of the candidates' tax plans confirms one of Barack Obama's top arguments against John McCain: the Arizona senator's proposals would offer substantial benefits to wealthy Americans."
And again, the impeachment of GW, which was brought up in the House yesterday :"Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Gadfly) thought it would be a swell idea, so he spent 4 1/2 hours Monday night reading his impeachment articles aloud on the House floor and forced the House clerks to do the same Tuesday night. Kucinich had already lost in his effort to impeach Vice President Cheney, so why not go for President Bush?" but without debate, the articles were sent " to the Judiciary Committee, where they will die a quiet death." and then,
"Why so unwilling to impeach Bush? As Democratic leaders like to say, two words: Dick Cheney." and later, "As it happens, the Dark Lord himself [I told ya] had escaped the confines of his secure, undisclosed location yesterday afternoon and was giving a speech to the friendly ears of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. His topic: energy. His solution: more oil." Whoopee!! Just what we need! Where's Harry Potter when we need him?
You aren't getting the message:
My friend Mafidl referred me to this article which Leonard Pitts wrote today in the Miami Herald. Here are a few noteworthy comments. Specifically, it is about a speech that Voldemort made the other day. He tried to joke about his family tree, saying "We have Cheneys on both sides of the family, and we don't even live in West Virginia". Not said, but implied, that this would only happen with "white trash". [Hmmm - how about the European aristocracy, I seem to recall, not being a history buff.]
Pitts continues: "Get it? Ha ha ha. I mean, you know how it is up there in the hills and hollers of that state where the population is 95 percent white and the median family income is $10,000 below the national average: cousins marry cousins, brothers bed their pipe-smoking sisters. Pardon me while I slap my knee."
Even tho' Cheney issued an apology, Pitts says:"Who speaks for the poor? Who raises a voice for them when their babies are born smaller and with lead in their blood? Who makes noise on their behalf when their schools turn out illiterates and their children are diagnosed with a higher rate of developmental disorders? Who cries out in their name when violence stalks their streets and schools and living rooms? Who says, ''Wait a minute!'' when their lives are reduced to caricature by media, or else ignored outright, which, in a very real sense, is the same as saying those lives do not exist."
Certainly not our present administration." and then "If the poor ever recognized this, got mad about it and began to coalesce irrespective of race, they could realign politics as we know it, require the nation to grapple with, and construct remedies for, their suffering. This was Martin Luther King's last dream, the one he was fighting to redeem when he was killed."
So, I say, VOTE FOR MCCAIN. Yeah!
I'm pissed, been that way for what seems like ages. How in Hell did we get where we are? Most of it was caused by you-know-who [Hint: not Voldemort - hmmmm - or is it?]. See this <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/08/AR2008060801687.html> article. How many of us were totally bamboozled and voted for V's henchman? and why the second time? How much wealthier did he and his minions get over the past 7 years? How about a hefty tax with no loopholes for the wealthy? How wealthy? Anyone who makes, say over $382,000/year, which is about 25% of us and this group has had 75% of the growth in recent years. Is that fair, I ask you? And I heard today that Obama is being criticized for possibility of raising taxes. How in the name of everything holy/unholy do people expect to keep up our infrastructure and services?
